Contaminated Ground Water Attorneys

Contaminated Ground Water

Our bodies need water to survive. Every day, we drink water, use it to bathe ourselves, and give it to our pets and plants. Water is vital to our well-being. However, hazardous materials or contaminated soil can jeopardize the quality of our water, and lead to sickness and a reduced quality of life.

Groundwater can become contaminated in several ways:

  • Contaminated soil can adversely affect groundwater. When pollutants such as dangerous pesticides are intentionally used on crops, the chemicals eventually find their way into the soil as well. The chemicals then seep into the soil and mix with groundwater, or mix with rain water and seep farther into the soil. Consequently, groundwater sources are then plagued with pesticide, and all who use the water are susceptible to whatever illnesses the chemicals are capable of causing.
  • Foreign contaminants that are improperly disposed of can affect groundwater. Hazardous materials, such as factory by-products, can leak into the soil. More deliberately, if liquid waste needs to be disposed of, it may simply be dumped into a water source, consequently contaminating the water and possibly causing harm to all those who use the water in some way.

Contaminated groundwater can affect us if we drink it, or use it to help cook food. If contaminated water is used to water plant life, and we then eat that plant life, we may also afflict ourselves with the contamination. If an animal comes into contact with the groundwater, particularly through drinking it, and we in turn use the animal as a source of food, then illness may be caused. If we use the contaminated water in our daily upkeep, while we shower or wash our faces, then the contamination can seep into our skin, thus possibly causing illness.

Seeing that water is such a vital part of our lives, it is important that companies, who are conducting business in such a way that ground water contamination may occur, are vigilant in protecting our water sources. Any negligence on the part of a company that results in contaminated ground water makes that company responsible for all damages associated with the blunder. In the event that a person develops some health infirmity as a result of contaminated groundwater, then that person is not responsible for correcting the health problem, and is certainly not to blame.
